Refinished Pine

Good family friends traded some of Steve's work for this beautiful set of pine furniture- a hope chest, dresser and book case. I had a moment of insanity and decided that since I painted the bunkbeds I would also attempt these three pieces of furniture. Did I mention that this was all before my company of 5 arrived? Along with painting the girls room and re-doing Adessa's old nursery room into a spare room. I worked on it every chance I got. During once in awhile naptimes and when the girls went to bed. And I can say that from the bunk bed to this project it was a night and day difference. I set all this furniture up in our spare room and rigged up a little system so the bookshelf shelves were standing up so I didn't have to keep flipping them (like the bunkbeds)
I started with all the furniture in the garage and used Steves electric sanders (which I didn't have for the bunkbeds!) and sanded it all down good, got out most of the marker and water stains. And then we brought them into the spare room and the hope chest into the play room where I rolled on a coat of Zinsser primer. It went so smoothly. I did 3 coats of the white paint and decided to leave some of the pine showing on the tops, because it is so beautiful and it is almost a shame to cover it all up. I put on 3 coats of the polyacrylic minwax on the tops and 2 coats on everything else. I dipped the handles in the minwax as well. I am SO PLEASED with how it all turned out and it truly wasn't that difficult. But that is because I worked out all the kinks on my bunkbeds, and I did them inside rather than in the garage. We got the girls room all put together and we are very happy... it almost has that magazine look to it that I was hoping for.
This isn't the exact same... but I forgot to take pictures, the one I got was in pretty rough shape, with stains and  marker on it

Dresser completed... I LOVE it!
Similiar Dresser before

The hope chest and bookshelf almost done!

The room put back together... still need to hang pictures and get curtains, but for the most part it is done!

I love it all!
